My Work
The vast majority of my work focuses on instruction and outreach in different forms and to all kinds of audiences. Whether I’m working with middle schoolers or tenured faculty, I appreciate the opportunity to teach and learn together. Social justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity are at the core of all my work.
UNLV Instruction & Outreach
I work extensively with the UNLV Composition Program coordinating library instruction for almost 100 English 102 classes each semester. I also teach one-shot library sessions for various First Year Experience classes in Business, Exploring Majors, and Fine Arts. I also co-host two Wikipedia edit-a-thons per year in addition to various co-curricular outreach.
K-12 Instruction & Outreach
I organize and teach during our two outreach events for middle and high school National History Day participants. Night at the Library 1 focuses on research and information gathering while Night at the Library 2 focuses on project creation. I also regularly teach information literacy to high school students conducting research for AP or IB classes.
Professional Development
UNLV University Libraries hosts professional development opportunities for faculty, part-time instructors, and graduate teaching assistants each year. All institutes emphasize backwards design and transparent learning. I play a leading role in our Creative Research Faculty Institute and Teaching Research-Based Writing in the English 102 Curriculum Institute.
Service
I greatly enjoy service and have served on UNLV University Libraries Awards Committee, Equity and Inclusion Committee, and various search committees. At the university level, I served on the UNLV Spanos Award Committee which selects the recipient of UNLV’s highest award for teaching. I am also on the UNLV Faculty Senate General Education Committee. Nationally, I serve on the ACRL Instruction Section’s Discussion Group Steering Committee and will be the vice chair 2020-2021.
